Problem and Solution

  • A story's plot is the series of events that take place in the story.

  • The problem is what the characters want to do, change, or find out.

  • The solution is how the problem is solved.

Vocabulary Strategy: Similes and Metaphors

  • A simile compares two things by using the words like or as. Example: as big as an elephant

  • A metaphor is the comparison of two things without using like or as. Example: the snow is a white blanket

Realistic Fiction

  • a made-up story

  • has real life characters, settings, and events

  • may contain foreshadowing (hints about what will happen)
