Realistic Fiction

  • Made-up story, but it can happen in real life

  • Includes realistic characters, events, and settings

  • May include a flashback to an earlier event

Comprehension Skill:

Point of View

  • A narrator is a person who tells a story.

  • Point of view is the way a story's narrator feels or thinks about the characters or events.

  • First- person narrator: a character in the story (clues: I, we, me)

  • Third- person narrator: not a part of the story, but can tell how all the characters feel and think (clues: he, she, they)

Vocabulary Strategy:

Context Clues

  • Context clues help you determine the meanings of unknown words. Authors sometimes give a definition for an unfamiliar. Hint: Look for words and phrases separated by commas.

  • The word may be restated in a simpler way. Hint: Look for the word "or"
