Comprehension Skill: Compare and Contrast

  • To compare is to tell how things or events are alike

  • To contrast is to tell how they are different

vocabulary strategy: Similes

  • A simile uses the words lie or as to compare two different things

  • To understand simile, figure out how an author compares one thing to another

  • Example: "Like a whale in the sky"
